Description of responsibilities

Analyze formulations and independently develop and prepare client prototypes of liquid formulations ensuring products meet project quality and food safety specifications while maintaining flavor quality.


Develop novel white label formulations having scientifically justified claims and stability that generate new business. 


Perform analytical method development, validation and quantitation of small molecules using GC/UHPLC/ICP-MS.

 

Assist in developing qualitative methods for routine GC/UHPLC /ICP-MS usage by quality group.


Keep detailed notes on projects and samples.


Communicate progress to departments within the company.


Use critical thinking to determine and offer solutions for a wide range of product challenges.


Improve current products and processes by enhancing formulations.


Create samples for customers.


Provide technical support for internal and external customers.


Support pilot production.


Source and evaluate new ingredients.


Other duties as assigned.



Required Skills

Strong understanding of food chemistry, analytical testing, formulations, and processing, ideally those used in food, beverage, and/or nutritional supplement manufacturing.

 

Proven track record of formulation and commercialization of liquid consumer product goods.


Must be hands-on, creative, resourceful, and results oriented.


Strong written and verbal communication skills.


Record keeping, maintaining a lab notebook and other formula files.

Prioritization/organization, ability to work on multiple projects at a time.

General understanding of FDA labeling laws and other registration requirements.


Ability to develop a professional working relationship with all personnel.


Follow Good Laboratory Practices.


Follow current Good Manufacturing Practices and other safety requirements.



Required Experience and Education

M.S. in food science, food engineering, organic chemistry, or similar applied science field required with 10+ years within an R&D function in a consumer product goods company and ideally within the beverage or nutritional supplement categories, or Ph.D. with 5+ years of post-graduate or industry experience within food and beverage or nutritional supplement categories. Secondary experience in personal care and oral hygiene consumer product industries highly desirable.
